My Weightloss & Better Health Journey | Why I Chose Nutrisystem

I. Am. So. Busy. I have always been that person with a thousand hobbies, projects and to do lists actively going on at the same time. More recently, it’s been work, basic home life (cleaning and all the joy that comes with being an adult), running this blog here, working on launching my candle business this year, and now also becoming an independent consultant for a skin care and bath product company. (more on these things later for sure!)

I also hate grocery shopping, cooking, the prepwork it takes to do said cooking, and cleaning up after the cooking has been done. But….I have a deep and passionate love affair with food.

So between the hatred for cooking, love of food, and kind of ridiculously busy schedule, my health has been put on the back burner recently and I’ve definitely started to notice it. I’ve been struggling with my weight for a little over a year now, and it seems like no matter what I’ve done I just can’t get rid of and keep the weight off. I started doing research, and while I’ve tried dinner delivery kits in the past like Blue Apron or Home Chef, they usually only provide enough for 2 or 3 dinners for just a couple of people per week. My health flaws were at a slightly broader range than just dinners – though my frequent visits to our local burrito joint or pizza deliveries weren’t helping. I just don’t have time to cook, nevermind the prep/shop/cleaning as well.

After researching several healthy meal delivery systems – some vegan, others specifically designed for losing weight – and crunching allll of the numbers, I came to find the one system that I think will probably work best for me.

Enter, Nutrisystem.*

Ok, ok, I know. You’re probably having mental images of weight loss commercials flash through your brain, along with the thoughts of “yeah, suuuure your system works”. I’m honestly kind of skeptical too. But after reading a lot of outside reviews, looking into the system itself and seeing what they had to offer and what their plans entailed, my research said that Nutrisystem is probably going to be the best fit for me.

My biggest problem with losing weight has been the fact that I love food. And I love junk food even more. If I could, I would eat pizza, burritos, fried chicken and burgers every single day of my life. I also kind of hate veggies (I know. Doesn’t help the wanting to lose weight issue). Nutrisystem offers all of the tasty, comforting foods I want, but with the plans and intent on losing weight through portion control and learning how to choose healthier versions of the food you already love.

From an outside glance, Nutrisystem just looks like any old diet plan. You order your food (which, I’ll be honest, $300+ for one person per month is expensive), you get your food, and that’s all you eat every single day and you magically lose weight. In reality, the Nutrisystem plan and set up is actually more involved than that. Sure, you’re shelling out a heck of a lot of money per month for all of your meals, but if it means training my body to be ok with smaller portions and overall better food I’m ok with that. You’re also getting access to a plethora of guides and information on healthier eating – even a “what to eat if you’re going out to ______ type of restaurant” guide, so even if you do go out to eat you have a better idea of what you should be eating that can still be really yummy.

So for me, Nutrisystem is going to be more than just a way to lose weight. I’m using this experience to retrain my body and my mindset about food as well. I realized a while ago that at the end of the day, I don’t even know how to throw together a healthy but tasty meal. It’s going to be about finding healthier alternatives to the junk food I hold so near and dear to my heart. It’s about learning what this horrible thing called portion control is and learning to accept and love it. If I lose all the weight I want, then great. But my main goal is to learn how to take the needed steps to a healthier, happier, more energetic version of me.

For the next several weeks I’m going to be taking you on my journey using Nutrisystem, sharing my personal experience and letting you look behind the scenes of what really happens when you sign up for a diet plan like this. I’ll be making weekly to bi-weekly post updates, and sharing more on my social media accounts (which you can find links to in the sidebar —–> ).

Next week you can look forward to my first Nutrisystem unboxing and my Week 1 experiences.

till next time,
